Villa Aiolos Swim & Spa | Villa for rent East Crete - Kouremenou Beach - Palaikastro - Sitia

Villa Aiolos is only 25km from the international airport of Sitia and about 150km from the international airport of Heraklion. The largest city in the region of eastern Crete is the magnificent Sitia, a small and amphitheatrically built city with a population of about 11,000 inhabitants, with picturesque taverns and rakadikas in the harbor where you can enjoy seafood and delicious traditional meze while tasting Sitia's famous raki.

We recommend a visit to the archaeological museum of Sitia with the richest findings of the palace of Kato Zakros, many of which are masterpieces of Minoan art and rare archaeological treasures. The exhibits cover a period of approximately 4,000 years, from the Late Neolithic to the Late Roman period.

Villa Aiolos is only 2.5km from the picturesque village of Paleokastro which is 16km from the town of Sitia. The area of the old castle has fantastic beaches, with crystal clear blue waters, some quiet unorganized, such as the beaches of Chiona, Maridati of Erimoupolis and Psillis Ammos, and others colorful and organized, such as the famous Vai beach with the unique palm forest in Europe for lovers of water sports and the huge beach of Kouremenos (to which Villa Aiolos faces) for surfing lovers.

In Paleokastro there are many traditional taverns and restaurants, as well as several Super markets for your shopping. There is also a Pharmacy.

Especially for Vai beach it is worth noting that it is a rare idyllic and exotic landscape that is really worth visiting as it is the only palm forest in Europe included since 1973 in the category of protected natural areas (natura area). For lovers of seclusion, we recommend the beach of Psilli Ammos, 150m south of Vai beach.

Also, the area around Palaikastro has a number of archaeological sites such as: the area of Itanou, one of the most important coastal cities of Eastern Crete from the Minoan era to the early Christian years (known today as Erimoupolis).

Itanos was an important port and transit trade station between the East and Crete.

• The archaeological site of Rousolakon where you will visit the ruins of a large and prosperous city of the Minoan times

• The historic monastery of Toplos with the Byzantine museum inaugurated by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is also worth a visit.

Finally, traveling further south you can also visit the beautiful picturesque and green village of Zakros 20km from Villa Aiolos and the ruins of the Minoan Palace of Kato Zakros, the gorge of the dead and the cave of Pelekitos.

The landscape is enchanting and ideal for rest and peaceful holidays. Also, in the picturesque fishing village of Kato Zakros you can enjoy your bath and taste fish dishes in the traditional taverns.

Once we reach Zakros we recommend that you travel even further south-west (about 9km) to the enchanting Xerokampos, a pristine isolated area that is just now starting to develop as a tourist destination.

Xerokampos, in addition to the picturesque traditional taverns, also has many exotic beaches reminiscent of the Caribbean with shallow blue and crystal clear waters such as Krinakia beach or Katsounaki (here on the sands grows a wonderful and rare white sand lily).

Argilos beach west of Krinakia, where you can have a natural spa bath and massage, immersed in the clay loam found on the slopes of the beach.

In general, Xerokambos is a place of strong contrasts with a rare natural and impressive beauty. The wild beauty of the mountains and gorges combine with the fantastic, deserted, exotic and rocky beaches and create a fairytale setting turning the area into a small hidden paradise of South East Crete.
